Nursery group brings stories to life

Friday, 6th May, 2005

Wellgreen Nursery in Stirling is encouraging children to read at home more often following the launch of it's Storysack initiative. Each storysack contains a lively fiction book, along with a set of props designed to bring the text to life.

Most sacks contain additional items related to the story such as a non-fiction book, rhyme card, song tape, jigsaw or game. The nursery is also trying to add dual language recordings of some stories to the sacks.

Eight story bags have been made for under three’s and another eight for its three to five year olds. The bags are designed for sharing between adults and children, either at home or in the nursery.

Parents, grandparents and staff have all worked hard to put together the storysacks along with Forth Valley Knitting Circle, which kindly made the props for three of the sacks. The storysack group is hoping to continue its work, and launch another set of story bags later in the year.

Pictured at the launch of the initiative with a storysack are L to R nursery pupils Ewan Roberts, Abbie Dickson, Dulanjale Suburrediar and Mathew Taylor along with L to R mum Pauline Roberts, teacher Janet Wood and Susan Ainslie from the Knitting Circle.
