Lower Polmaise - Landfill site

Historically Lower Polmaise landfill site was the final depository for over 90% of Stirling Council’s household and commercial waste. It stopped accepting waste in August 2004. The landfill site is now being remediated and leachate will continue to be treated for the next 20-30 years.  A transfer station now is available for nonrecyclable household and commercial waste

Tip Permits
Commercial waste can be disposed of at the Lower Polmaise Transfer Station or (if appropriate) delivered to the compost site by purchasing a Tip Permit at Viewforth reception. Each permit entitles the holder to dispose of up to half a tonne.

  • Mixed Waste Permit £39.37
  • Green Waste Permit £24.09
    (NB: this service is for low volume producers and vehicle size is limited).

Please note that disposal charges have not risen for 2008-09. Rather, Landfill Tax rose from £24/tonne to £32/tonne on 1 April 2008. In the case of green waste, the rise is due to contamination removal costs.

Transfer Station Access
Large volume waste producers/carriers can become weighbridge customers by sending a letter to Stirling Council Waste Services requesting a weighbridge account and enclosing a copy of a valid Waste Carriers Licence (issued by SEPA/EA).

  • Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm (last entry at 4:00pm)
  • Saturday 7:30am - 12:00noon (last entry at 11:45am)

Asbestos
Disposal of asbestos is strictly legislated under the Special Waste Regulations 1996. Do not attempt to move such wastes until you have taken advice. Call SEPA on (01786) 452595 or Stirling Council on 0845 277 7000.

Household Waste Recycling Centre

A wide variety of household recyclables (including garden waste) can be taken directly to the Household Waste Recycling Centre at the Lower Polmaise. No commercial waste accepted.

  • Summer Opening Hours; 01 April - 30 September - Monday - Sunday - 8.30am - 6.30pm. Last entry at 6.15pm
  • Winter Opening Hours - 01 October - 31March- Monday - Sunday - 8.30am - 5.00pm. Last entry at 4.45pm.
