Building Regulations

Building regulations are designed to ensure that the policies set out in the relevant legislation are carried out. Building regulations approval is required for most building work in Scotland. These are set out in the Building (Scotland) Act 2003.

You may need a building warrant if you are planning to:

  • build
  • alter
  • extend
  • convert or
  • demolish a building

Our main objective is to ensure that buildings are safe for the occupants and for the general public.

If you are not sure if you need a building warrant checkout the web page.

If you are having construction or refurbishment work done, you may need to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and you may have other duties also.
