Community advice - work, money and benefits

Levels of personal debt and availability of affordable credit, are significant factors which can push people into poverty. Unfortunately these levels have increased significantly in recent years. The recession along with the Government’s programme of welfare reforms has led to many households experiencing reduced incomes making their debt levels unsustainable. Advice Services along with partners, provides information, advice and assistance with money management.

Stirling Council Advice Services engages with citizens in a variety of settings to support people to improve their financial security by:

·    Maximising the income of households that rely on benefits
·    Minimising outgoings and reducing levels of debt
·    Ensuring our citizens have increased choices when it comes to financial products and services
·    Increasing people’s understanding of the consequences of the choices they make with regards to their     finances
·    Ensuring that people are not pushed into poverty or prevented from accessing essential services

Our service is available to provide a free, confidential financial wellbeing check to all residents in the Stirling Council area.

We ensure that we target our efforts at the individuals, groups and areas most at risk of experiencing financial exclusion. We will prevent problems arising when we can, provide solutions to problems when necessary and work to achieve, maintain and improve the financial wellbeing of our communities and those who live within them.
