Reserving books

If you want to borrow a book, audiobook or music CD that is held at a different library from the one you normally use, or is out on loan to another borrower, you can ask for the item to be 'reserved' for you to collect from a library of your choice. This service is free. Just visit the library catalogue to get started.

When your reservation is ready for collection we'll send you an email - if we don't have your email address we'll call you.

Loans 

Loan periods 

  • Books can be kept for 3 weeks
  • Audio can be kept for 1 week
  • DVDs for 1 week   

Inter-library Loans

If you can't find the item you need in our library catalogue we may be able to borrow it from another library service via inter library loan. Books, journal articles and music scores can be borrowed through this service however there is a charge for this.

Extending or renewing a loan

The standard loan period for books is three weeks. If you wish an extended loan (e.g if you are going away on holiday), or want to renew a loan (e.g. if you haven't finished with your book), we are happy to do this, as long as the book has not been requested by another reader or library service.

If the book has been requested by another reader, but you haven't finished reading it, we will place a new request on the title  so that the book will return to you as soon as possible.

If you want to use the online renewal facility, you will need a PIN number, as well as the barcode number from the back of your library card to create and access your account. You can collect your PIN number when you visit a library, or your PIN can be posted or emailed to you. For security reasons, we cannot give out details of PINs over the phone.
