Cornton Primary School was originally opened in 1958 but only for children from Primary 1 to Primary 4. The school was extended to Primary 7some twenty years later with the addition of mobile classrooms.
In 2000 the school building was extended and refurbished to the current high standard, principally because of the new houses being built in the Westhaugh area. The school’s catchment area covers both Cornton and Westhaugh.
There are nine modern classrooms, eight in the main building and one in a temporary teaching unit housing approximately 230 children. In August 2014 we should also have the use of the old Cornton Nursery building for two more classrooms. Each class has up to datecomputing facilities including interactive whiteboards and computers in all rooms.
When the school was extended, a purpose-built freestanding nursery was constructed. It can accommodate 70 children in the morning and the same number in the afternoon. It is an extended day facility open from 8am until 6pm and offers a high standard of care and education.
Each school has it own geographic area called a catchment area. Normally, your child will attend your local catchment school. If you wish your child to attend a school other than the catchment school you are required to make a placing request. View our catchment area.
