Catering & cleaning in schools
Cleaning in schools
We have over 180 cleaning staff working in more than 100 buildings (including Public Conveniences), that are committed to maintaining a high-quality and efficient cleaning service. They are trained to high standards and many have achieved the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), Cleaning Operators Proficiency Certificate.
Catering in schools
Facilities Management Catering Services provides school meals and hospitality catering for 6 secondary schools, 38 primary schools, 1 Secondary Support Unit and 7 nurseries.
We have sole catering rights within schools and also provide staff, hospitality and Civic catering within Council offices.
We are dedicated to providing appetising and nutritious meals for schools and older people and work in partnership with Education and Forth Valley Health Board to provide suitable menus for people with special dietary needs.
Our menus conform to The Health (Promotion and Nutrition) (Scotland) Act 2007 and we have achieved the Food for Life Silver award from the Soil Association. Working with the Soil Association, we are committed to changing the present convenience food culture and reconnecting young people with freshly prepared food and its source.
This film explains more about Food for Life and what we are doing schools.
Our menus are seasonal, the Spring/Summer menu is available from April to mid October and the Autumn /Winter menu starts after October break to March.
The ticket price for a primary lunch is £2.10 and is FREE for all P1 to P3 pupils.
We have a 3 week menu cycle that allows us to offer more popular menu items and provide balanced, nutritious lunches based on current healthy eating guidelines. Fresh bread, seasonal salads, fruit juice and milk are available each day. Yoghurt and Fruit is always available as an alternative to the pudding.
We believe that any child who has special dietary needs should be able to choose to have a school meal and be appropriately catered for. We have worked in partnership with Forth Valley Health Services and Education to produce guidance on the different types of special diets which may be required. Our Policy and Guidance to Educational Establishments on the Provision of Medically Prescribed Diets, (Aug 2009) contains guidance for parents/guardians and staff and also Special Diet Referral forms that must be completed for each child for every school year.

The current ticket price is £2.40 for a pupil meal and £3.90 for an adult meal.

During 2015/16 we held a competition for pupils from all secondary schools to involve them and let them tell us what kind of food service they would like. The winning team was from Stirling High and we worked with them to create the new Fresco brand. Food from around the world is served each week and we have introduced new ways to serve pupils faster.
