Equality and diversity

Stirling Council believes every customer, citizen and employee or prospective employee, has the right to receive fair and equal treatment. It is therefore committed to promoting fairness, dignity, respect and equal opportunity for all who live, work in or visit the Council area.

The Council’s continued commitment to pursuing equality for its citizens, communities and employees is set out in the Equality Strategy for 2013 -17.

The Draft Equality Outcomes identified in the strategy provide the framework for the Council’s action over the next four years. Following approval of the strategy the Council will work with the community to develop an Action Plan for the Outcomes.

The strategy is accompanied by a Mainstreaming Report. This shows how the Council integrates equality across its activities and functions, in its roles as service provider and employer.  This report contains employment information, including the Council’s policy on equal pay.

An Equality Impact Assessment of the Strategy confirms it will have a positive impact on helping the Council to meet the General Equality Duty and the needs of people in the protected characteristic groups, and those experiencing or vulnerable to poverty in our communities.

Stirling Council will consider the Equality Strategy at its meeting on 2 May 2013.
