Wheelchair, scooter and ramp information
Manually propelled or powered wheelchair
The NHS provides wheelchairs for those who need them. If you feel that you need a wheelchair, please contact your local General Practitioner or health centre for an assessment.
Scooter
Both the Council and NHS do not provide scooters. You can purchase a scooter privately or through the Motability scheme.
I'm having difficulty accessing my home
If you are having difficulty accessing your home, find out more about Equipment and adaptations. There are a range of aids which may help you to access your home such as hand rails, step alterations or ramps. You may require a care assessment.
The Council will not provide a ramp if you have purchased a scooter privately or through the Motability scheme.
If you want to install a ramp privately you will need to contact one of the following:

Contact your landlord for further information
Owner-occupier accommodation
You may require planning permission prior to installing a ramp.
Storing my wheelchair/scooter
Both the Council and NHS do not provide storage for your scooter. If you don't have space within your home and wish to build a shed or garage you may need planning permission and/or consent. This depends on the type of house you have:
Council house

You may need planning permission prior to installing a ramp.
Repairing or servicing your wheelchair/scooter
If the NHS has provided your wheelchair, then you should contact the wheelchair provider - this will be noted on your wheelchair. If you have purchased a wheelchair/scooter privately, you may wish to contact your supplier for servicing/repair. If you have purchased via Motability, servicing and repairs are covered through the lease of the vehicle.
