Housing advice - buying your home
The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 introduces some chanfes to the regulations covering the right to buy and these took effect from 30 September 2002.
The Act also takes account of the rights of existing tenants in relations to purchasing their Council House.
The news rules apply only to tenancies allocated after 30 September 2002.
The main aspects of the existing right to buy, and the new provisions, known as the Modernised Right to Buy are summarised and detailed in this leaflet. An information leaflet produces by the Scottish Government is also available from your local housing office.
