Landfilled garden waste, decomposes slowly without oxygen. When the green waste rots away, the greenhouse gas methane is produced which contributes to global warming. 

Additionally, the rotting garden waste produces a liquid known as leachate,  a liquid that has dissolved or entrained environmentally harmful substance.If this leavings are not properly controlled can potentially pollute the environment.

What happens to my green waste once it is collected?

After your garden waste is collected it is taken to a central facility for composting The compost is mainly used in landscaping and garden projects.

You can reduce the need to buy compost by setting up a compost bin in your garden. This is relatively easy to do, and saves pollution that would otherwise be created by transporting this heavy waste.
