Did you know:
Every household discards an average of 1.2 tonnes of waste each year. For more information on how you can reduce,re-use and recycle more of your waste visit our waste and sustainability pages.
However, most of the things in the grey bin that end up in landfill don't belong there.
- Food Waste - All the food waste collected is turned into compost and green energy and used to power homes and businesses.
- Plastic bottles, food and drink cans, paper -- including junk mail -- textiles, shoes and glass bottles and jars - can be reused or recycled and turned into new products.
- Garden waste, veggie peelings, paper and cardboard - can be composted at home.
- Garden waste also is collected by the Council via the brown bin collection service.
We are always looking at ways to improve our service and hope to provide you with advice on how you can help us reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Please keep walkways passable, be sure your bins lids are closed and recyclables covered.
In very windy weather, boxes and caddies can blow away if not secured. Assess the situation carefully and do not put out recycling if it's too windy or if high winds are expected overnight, and please take bins and boxes back in as soon as possibly after emptying.
