Ensure all foods are covered - work and floor surfaces should be cleaned Block all cracks and holes in walls and steps Unsound surfaces (eg tiles) should be made good and any possible harbourage sealed with a suitable filler.

Information

  • Cockroaches are large insects which range in size from 10-23mm in length
  • They have long antennae and two sets of wings
  • Cockroaches are nocturnal by nature
  • They spend the day hiding in cracks or under floor covering
  • Cockroaches can carry food poisoning organisms on their bodies and will feed on almost anything including faecal matter
  • They are active and scavenge over wide areas
  • Young cockroaches are white in colour but rapidly darken to medium brown

  • Cockroaches are not a common problem in Scotland.
  • Found in warm indoor environments especially institution heating systems
