Criminal justice social work - reports

The Courts may require reports to inform their decisions.  Criminal Justice Social Work may be required to produce several reports for the Courts, depending on the Court's requirement.

A means enquiry report provides a brief outline of your current situation, setting out personal and financial circumstances and is usually requested if you have an outstanding fine or have missed payments towards a fine.

A parole reports encompass information and assessments from both prison-based and community-based social workers. If someone is released under Parole, it means that they have been released under specific conditions from prison to serve part of their sentence under supervision in the community following review by the Parole Board.  The Parole Board use parole reports as part of a larger Parole Dossier.

As of 1st February 2011, Social Enquiry Reports are now called Criminal Justice Social Work Reports.  If a Sheriff or Judge is seeking further information about an accused person, they will ask for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report. For further information about what these reports detail and what involvement the accused person will have, please see Criminal Justice Social Work Report
