Recycling

In 2010/11, Stirling Council residents recycled over 48% of their household waste, giving Stirling Council one of the highest recycling rates in Scotland.

In the first 6 months of 2011/12 residents helped us to recycled even more - thanks to residents' participation, Stirling Council recycled over 56% from April 2011 to September 2011.

Waste HierarchyBy recycling the materials you can no longer re-use you are:

  • Saving the Earth's natural resources.
  • Saving energy and reducing the risk of climate change.
  • Reducing the need for landfill.

Recycling

Recycling is the third of the traditional "3Rs": Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.  It usually comes into play only after reducing waste and reusing materials are no longer options.

Recycled materials are not waste, but are resources that can be used to make new products.
