Waste and recycling - household waste
We all create waste in the course of our daily lives.
Fact: Each Stirling Council household discards an average of 1.2 tonnes of waste each year.
Many of the things that end up destined for landfill as household waste need not be put in the grey wheelie bin in the first place:
- Food Waste - the majority of Stirling Council households have a weekly food waste collection. All the food waste collected is turned into green energy and used to power homes and businesses
- Plastic bottles, food and drink cans, paper, textiles, shoes and glass bottles and jars - can be reused or recycled and turned into new products
- Garden waste, veggie peelings, junk mail and cardboard - can be composted at home or by the Council via the brown bin collection service
Waste Services are continuously looking at ways to improve the waste and recycling collection service and to provide residents with advice on how you can help us reduce the amount fo waste sent to landfill.
In 2011/12 Stirling Council residents recycled over 55% of their household waste - a big thank you to all residents for helping us achieve this, everyone's efforts are much appreciated.
