Household waste - special uplifts

Special uplifts can be requested for bulky items that are too big to be put out with normal rubbish, e.g. sofas and chairs, washing machines, etc.

There are exemptions to charges in certain circumstances, e.g. fridges and freezers or residents who are of pensionable age.  Please call 0845 277 7000 to see if your request qualifies.

Please note: If payment is required, this must be made in full before a Special Uplift can be made.

Items should be left at or near the kerbside for collection, you will be informed of the collection day.  Only items which have been requested, and so are on the job line for the uplift crew, will be uplifted.

Bulky items can also be taken to one of our 3 Household Waste Recycling Centres, at Lower Polmaise, Balfron and Callander and disposed of free of charge.

How can I get rid of old furniture?

You can take old, unwanted items of furniture to any of our 3 Household Waste Recycling Centres at Lower Polmaise, Balfron and Callander and dispose of it free of charge.   The Salvation Army has containers at Lower Polmaise for furniture, electrical goods and white goods all of which are then reused to furnish flats. Alternatively, you can arrange for a Special Uplift, or it can be donated to charity.

Are there any items that cannot be included in a Special Uplift?

There are some items that cannot be uplifted because they are too big or heavy, or because they could pose a health and safety risk either during transportation or disposal.  Some items need to be disposed of as 'special waste' and would need to be collected by a specialist contractor (e.g. asbestos).

Can I add to my Special Uplift order once I have paid?

We will not remove any item that is not on our order, so please do not place anything out for collection that was not part of your original order.

Can the council uplift items from inside the house?

Unfortunately we are not able to carry out an uplift from inside the house.

Where should I leave items for Special Uplift?

Items should be left at or near the kerbside for collection.

Can I find out how to get rid of old fridges?

Refrigerators and freezers are a separate waste category due to new European legislation.  They are uplifted from households at no charge with all areas being serviced on a regular, rota basis.  There is a charge of for commercial premises who require a fridge or freezer to be uplifted.  For information on charges call the contact centre on 0845 277 7000 (if calling from a mobile use the cheaper option 01786 4040440)
