Supporting effective transitions in early childhood
Education and Social care are committed to supporting effective and sensitive transitions for all children as they move between home, extended family, community childcare, early years, and care settings. Family Support and Community Childcare supports our youngest, most vulnerable children and families within a multi-agency context. The challenge of meeting the needs of these children has generated a growing national debate, which is reflected in the Scottish Executive’s guidelines and strategies for those involved in early childhood, regarding collaborative and joint working. The importance of taking time to plan transition arrangements for such families is crucial and this guidance has therefore been developed to ensure all involved agencies have a shared understanding of the core features of effective transition practice. This guidance is intended as a starting point for discussion and will be further developed over time.
Community Childcare Case Studies
These case studies are factual accounts of Community Childcare placements and provide a basis for discussion across a wide range of practice issues. The names, and in some cases, the circumstances have been changed within the case studies in order to respect those involved. The case studies may be used in a variety of ways including: continuing professional development, in-house training, developing good transition practice, as a training tool for inter-agency working, and in general for stimulating reflection and developing best practice across authorities and sectors.
