Stirling Substance forum

The Stirling Substance Misuse Forum meets every 6 - 8 weeks and the principle aims are to co-ordinate and express the views of service providers, service users and those in need of services in relation to substance misuse. Two of the key objectives of the forum are to identify local issues and need in relation to substance issues and identify gaps in service provision by developing and implementing an integrated and co-ordinated approach.  The Forum maintains and revises an annual work plan that details the actions and progress achieved by its members.  Membership is drawn from those organisations/services who either work with or on behalf of drug/alcohol users or those affected by another person’s use of alcohol or drugs.  Representatives are of Team Leader level or above so that strategic decisions can be made as required.

The Substance Misuse Forum has a responsibility to report issues and developments to the SAT and can seek support for external financial applications and bids.  The Development Officer attached to Stirling Council co-ordinates the forum work plan and meetings and also acts as point of contact between the forum and the SAT.

The SAT, Forum and affiliated working groups address many issues relating to substance misuse.  This can range from Education and Prevention work such as Peer Education through to groups addressing issues related to parental substance misuse.
