Licences - skin piercing
Licensing of skin piercing and tattooing was introduced by the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (Licensing of Skin Piercing and Tattooing) Order 2006. This aims to reduce health risks faced by customers and practitioners, in particular the transmission of blood borne viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis B and C.
If you carry out any of the following activities within our area, you will require a licence:
- Cosmetic skin piercing, including ear piercing
- Tattooing, including semi-permanent make-up
- Electrolysis
- Acupuncture
Mobile operators will require a licence from every local authority in which they operate.
