Power of attorney
What is a Power of Attorney?
A Power of Attorney is an authority which is given by an individual (referred to as the granter) to another person(s) - known as the Attorney(s) - to deal with aspects of their affairs. The provision of authority can be in relation to financial or property matters (referred to as continuing powers), and/or personal welfare issues (referred to as welfare powers).
Why would I need a Power of Attorney?
Arranging a Power of Attorney enables you to control what kind of things you may wish for an attorney to do for you in the future. You can choose how you want your incapacity to be decided so that it is clear when you want your attorney(s) to act for you.
Who can I appoint as my Attorney?
The attorney should be somone who the granter trusts. The person could be a relative, friend or a professional. If you wish, you can appoint different attorneys to deal with your continuing powers and welfare powers.
