Preventative services for young people

Positive changes

We aim to meet the needs of young people when they need it, helping them to make positive changes in their lives and in their communities.

Our team offer 11-18 year olds support to overcome problems with anti-social behaviour or criminal activity and we can help young people who are having relationship difficulties with family, carers or the community.

Our vision

We want the children and young people who are referred to us to become:

  • successful learners

  • confident individuals

  • effective contributors

  • responsible citizens

This is in line with the government's vision for all Scotland's children.

Our objectives

We have agreed four objectives and will measure our success against these.  We will:

  • reduce the number of 11-18 year olds who are looked after away from home, or on supervision measures at home

  • reduce the number of young people involved in criminal activity

  • reduce the number of young people involved in antisocial behaviour

  • increase the number of young people achieving successful outcomes as a direct result of their participation in Positive Changes.

How we work

We will link with resources, services and activities throughout the Stirling Council area and work creatively, flexibly and consistently with the young people referred to us.

In partnership with the young person, their family or carers and other organisations we will identify gaps in service provision and work together in a creative and dynamic way.  We will provide out of hours support in the evenings, at weekends and occasionally on public holidays.  we will find the approach that suits the individual needs of each young person.  We can give young people the support t and information they need to take part in new activities.  We will agree an action plan with each young person, their family or carer and all partner organisations.

Referring a young person to the team

Proposed referrals can be discussed and agreed through three groups:

Early intervention group

This group meets weekly and involve young people who require prevention work, diversion activities or early intervention group work to prevent or reduce anti-social behaviour or nuisance behaviour in the community.

Youth Justice Liaison group

This group meets every fortnight and involve providing additional support to offenders who are currently with the Fregarrach project.

Community resource group

This group meets every four weeks.  Referrals can be made by relevant professionals and will target young people who require a service in order to prevent:

  • a breakdown in relationship with their parents or carers

  • an escalation of offending behaviour

  • a referral to the Children's Hearing for compulsory measures
