Archives - access
Everyone is welcome to use the Archives. We have a dedicated quiet and comfortable area for you to consult records in. Staff are there to help you find what you are looking for and there is free WiFi.
Registration
Staff will ask you to complete a short registration form giving your contact details and areas of interest. In signing this you are agreeing to abide by our simple, common-sense search-room procedures.
Accessing records
Records are accessed by looking through our various catalogues and indexes and by filling in a document request slip. Staff are always on hand to assist and help with any queries you may have about our procedures or the records – never be afraid to ask!
Handling records
When accessing the records you will be asked to observe our record handling guidelines – this helps to minimise any potential damage to the records through mishandling.
Copying
We can provide photocopies of original records of size A3 and below if the documents are robust enough to withstand the process. If documents are in copyright or are physically fragile, this may not be possible. If copies of entries from bound volumes are required, this must be done using a digital camera. We regret that visitors are not permitted to use their own photographic equipment. Please see our information on charges for further details.
Archives in the Community
The Archives Service is committed to raising awareness about its work and its role in preserving and making accessible the historical records of the Stirling Council area.
We are also committed to illustrating the variety of ways in which archives can be used.
To do this we offer a number of outreach activities, including:
- talks to local groups and societies
- workshops on various subjects
- work with schools, both teachers and students
- exhibitions and displays
- tours of the Archives.
