New rules about displaying A-board advertisements outside shops and other premises across the Stirling area are being introduced by Stirling Council due to address problems with the inappropriate placement of A-boards and roadside advertising.

Busy, vibrant shopping streets benefit everyone in the Stirling area, and we understand that businesses are keen to promote their goods and services, and attract the attention of potential customers.

But there is a balance to be struck in that we can’t let over-sized or badly positioned advertising boards pose a potential hazard to local shoppers and visitors to the area or distract passing motorists. Moving around the shopping streets of our city, towns and villages, and other local areas, should be a pleasure - safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone.

The new regulations recognise the desire of businesses to use A-board advertising, but seeks to ensure a fair and equitable policy is in place, that applies to all and also ensures public safety is maintained.

The permit system has been introduced to control the use of A-boards, and any business currently displaying A-boards will be contacted directly during October to advise them of the new policy and procedures.

Stirling Council will work with local businesses to explore alternative ways for them to attract passing business and potential customers should the use of A-boards not be possible at a particular location.
