A licence is required for vehicles who ply for hire in the street i.e. the driver can accept passengers for reward at taxi stances, in the street and can be flagged down by members of the public.  Taxi vehicle operators can also accept pre-arranged bookings.

Taxi vehicles in Stirling have to be white or silver in colour and will have a roof sign. The roof sign will carry the Stirling Council logo and identify the taxi plate number at both sides of the Roof Bar e.g. T350.

Council Plates are green in colour, are found on the rear and front bumper of the car, they have the vehicle licence number, vehicle registration number, vehicle make and colour and expiry date.

Restricted Taxi Vehicle Licences will have white plates showing the same details.  These vehicles cannot ply for hire within a 5 mile radius of Stirling City Centre.

Taxis must carry a fare table and this must be on display at all times.

A private hire vehicle licence is required for a vehicle which accepts bookings by prior arrangement for a journey or hire i.e. a pre-arranged booking.

All vehicles licensed by us will have been tested by one of the approved testing stations. The frequency of vehicle testing is calculated by the age of the vehicle as there is no upper age limit for licensed vehicles withing Stirling Council's area.
