Licences - private hire vehicle operator
Private Hire Vehicles cannot ply for hire in the street. Private Hire Vehicles in Stirling cannot be white or silver in colour and are not allowed to have roof signs.
Council Plates for Private Hire Vehicles are purple in colour, and are found on the rear bumper of the car, they have the vehicle licence number, vehicle registration number, vehicle make and colour and expiry date below. Private Hire Vehicles will also have an oval door side on each passenger door showing the licence number and stating that the vehicle must be pre-booked.
Private hire vehicles that have a meter fitted must carry a fare table and this must be on display at all times.
A private hire vehicle licence is required for a vehicle which accepts bookings by prior arrangement for a journey or hire i.e. a pre-arranged booking.
All vehicles licensed by us will have been tested by one of the approved testing stations. The frequency of vehicle testing is calculated by the age of the vehicle as there is no upper age limit for licensed vehicles withing Stirling Council's area.
