Schools - crossing patrols
The School Crossing Patrol service is provided by Facilities Management Services to help children and other pedestrians cross the road safely while walking to and from school.
Facilities Management Services employs 37 School Crossing staff who patrol crossing points at the start and finish of each school day. Exact times vary from site to site but are usually for a period of 30 to 40 minutes each morning and again in the afternoon. There is also a lunch time service for some schools if required.
School crossing patrol points were selected according to the Council’s agreed policy and the Local Authority Road Safety Officers Association (LARSOA) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), which have recently been superseded by the Road Safety Great Britain, School Crossing Patrol Service Guidelines (revised 2009).
