The Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra is one of the most talented, exciting and dynamic young jazz ensembles on the planet.
Under Tommy Smith’s unassuming leadership, musicians, some of them as young as twelve, have been encouraged, nurtured and directed into a highly disciplined, superbly creative unit where their personalities are allowed to develop and shine. Their enthusiasm for the music tumbles out of every live performance and from the six tracks included on their debut album, Exploration.
Now, with a new concert season, including an appearance at Glasgow International Jazz Festival, the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra enters a new phase, promising superb ensemble playing, outstanding solo adventures and vibrant music full of imagination, precocious maturity and youthful pizzazz.
