Comprising Tony Moffat on violin, Robert Irvine on cello and John Thwaites on piano, the Da Vinci Piano Trio makes a welcome return to the Tolbooth following their excellent series of chamber music concerts in 2006.
Tolbooth audiences loved the trio’s fine musicianship and mesmerising performances, but also their informal and informative introductions. Their latest performance should not to be missed, with a pairing of some of the best-loved piano trios in the repertoire.
Ravel’s hauntingly beautiful piano trio, as featured in the film Un Coeur en Hiver, is paired with Schubert’s gloriously engaging and melodically unforgettable final piano trio in B flat.
These are three players who know what chamber music is all about. No battling for prominence, nor any showy arrogance or bravado, just an exemplary display of teamwork and empathetic musicianship that tinged each of their performances with compelling affection”
