Memorial Benches

The installation of memorial benches in cemeteries is restricted to areas which are not suitable for the burial of either full coffin interments or cremated remains.  You can donate a memorial bench to celebrate or commemorate a friend or family member in any of our Cemeteries.

Requests for Memorial Bench Installation

Applicants should write to the Cemeteries Service stating the cemetery you wish to donate a bench.  As space is premium there is currently a waiting list for memorial benches however, requests are still received and benches are installed on a first come first served basis.

The decision on whether there is capacity for a bench will be agreed between the Cemeteries Officer and Supervisor.  Where there is significant doubt as to the availability of space for a bench, the decision lies with the Cemeteries Officer.

The cost of the memorial bench is to be covered by the applicant, using the Stirling Council recommended suppliers: J & J Learmonth or Streetscape Ltd

Installation of Memorial Benches

Foundations will be supplied by Stirling Council Cemeteries Service.  Stirling Council will guarantee any bench for a period of one year from installation.  The guarantee covers failure of the structure of the bench and painting/staining where appropriate but does not cover damage by vandalism.

Once a bench has fallen into a state of disrepair, the Cemeteries Service will write to the donor advising them of this.  If the donor does not either remove or repair the bench within a period of one month from the date of the letter/call, the bench will be removed and the next donor on the waiting list will be invited to supply a bench.
