These communal facilities include playgrounds, play equipment, outdoor gyms, tennis courts, football pitches, skateparks and sports areas.
Parks and open space remain open – but only for individuals and households to exercise once a day, in line with Government restrictions Activities such as running, walking or cycling must either be done alone or with people you live at home with.
Signs are being placed outside Council parks and on play equipment to remind residents of the current restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Only parks and greenspaces close to your home should be used for exercising. Please avoid driving to parks and carry any litter home with you.
Police Scotland will be monitoring adherence to these Government restrictions and will have an enforcement role.
Adhere to the national rules
Convener of Stirling Council’s Environment and Housing Committee, Cllr Jim Thomson said: “I understand this will be disappointing news for families across Stirling who enjoy using the facilities in our beautiful parks and greenspaces, but we must adhere to the national rules during this national emergency.
“While people can still use our parks for exercise, it must be within the scope of the Government restrictions on reducing social contact, and I would urge people to follow this guidance so we can limit the spread the disease.”
Cooperation and understanding
Vice Convener of the Committee, Cllr Danny Gibson said: “We know how important our parks and green spaces are to local families so this was another difficult but necessary decision.
“We would appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding during these unprecedented circumstances and we will re-open these communal areas as soon as possible.”
At this time, in particular, we would also remind dog owners to always bag and bin dog waste in our parks and open spaces.
