Doors Open Days are Scotland’s largest free festival. Every September, Doors Open Days give visitors of all ages the opportunity to get inside a variety of interesting buildings which are not usually open or accessible to the public.

Part of European Heritage Days, the festival is a celebration of Scotland’s built heritage, both old and new, and highlights local skills and traditions, the history of an area, architecture, and works of art.

In Stirling, Doors Open Days have been happening since 1994, making 2021 our 27th year of taking part in the event. Last year was the first time the event was 100% digital. This year Stirling’s Doors Open Days will be a mixture of digital presentations and buildings physically opening their doors and grounds to visitors.

The event is nationally coordinated by the Scottish Civic Trust and is supported by Historic Environment Scotland, it is delivered by regional coordinators from local authorities and amenity groups, supported by volunteers. The venues are almost always manned by volunteer groups and individuals who generously give their time and effort to the event.

Doors Open Days encourages people to attend in-person events in accordance with the latest Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance.

The events and buildings that will be open for physical visits in September will ensure safe access according to the most current guidelines.

Visitors entering buildings, or participating in the events listed in this leaflet, do so at their own risk. Neither Stirling Council, nor building owners nor event organisers are responsible for any accidents or damages incurred.

Stirling Council would like to thank all those building owners and volunteers who have contributed to Stirling’s Doors Open Days/Archaeology Month. Thanks also to the Scottish Civic Trust, Historic Environment Scotland, and the Council for Scottish Archaeology for their roles in organisation and sponsorship of the event across Scotland.
