Braehead & Broomridge Community Council

26 February 2025: Mayfield Community Centre

Present:

Mandy Rae, Lesley Ferguson, Barbara Anderson, Jamie Adcock, Martin Shaw, Hugh McClung, Philomena McClung

In attendance: Margaret Sweeney (minute taker), Councillor Ferguson, Andrew Nelson – Superglass. 2 x Braehead & Broomridge residents.

  1. Welcome

Martin Shaw; Chair opened the meeting, welcomed all and introductions were made.

  1. Minutes of previous meeting and matters arising

Councillor Flannagan in his apologies raised the issue of using Zoom again.

Action:

Martin will speak to Mayfield Centre regarding Wi-Fi and if available will look at trying zoom for a couple of months, then a final decision will be taken.

No declarations of interest.

January Minutes were proposed by Lesley Ferguson and seconded by Barbara Anderson.

  1. Office Bearer Reports

Chair

Thank you to Mandy for chairing the meeting last month.

Action: None

Secretary

Payment for Crawford Hall to be made following receipt of invoice for 3 dates – Nov ’24, 26 March and 28 May ’25.

Interaction on Facebook has increased. Received good response from residents in Wallace Park regarding planters. Received various correspondence recently on a number of issues, waste separation, extra bins for dog waste, rubbish in Almond Court and question received about having a bottle bank. Many has received photographs regarding the waste issue in Almond Court and has passed these onto the enquiry line.

Mandy to contact Stephen Bly regarding the above issues. 1

Treasurer

Still no action on bank update. Need access to the account so that payments can be made to the minute taker and others.

Planning

Change of use for 27 Linden Avenue – change from shop to flat. No objections.

  1. Additional Reports

Councillor Report

Councillor Ferguson – budget being set on 27 February 2025. If there are any concerns he will raise them in chambers. Council is still dealing with storm damage from the last month. Dealing with the issue on Bannockburn Road regarding wheelie bins on pavement. Councillor surgeries held at the end of the month.

Hugh asked about fences that are down at Carrick Court due to the storm. These are pensioners cottages. Tenants have reported it but highlighting to the Councillor for his awareness.

Councillor Flannagan – main issue is the council budget.

Police

Currently have no community police presence. Office worker who works Monday – Friday will forward meeting notes.

Received January report – between 1 January – 27 January 2025 13 detected case and 37 undetected along with 125 calls to the police.

Action:

Martin will contact the Inspector for Community Policing to discuss this matter.

Superglass

No complaints received since the beginning of the year. There is still an ongoing issue, and this is being dealt directly with the individual who raised the issue. In May part of the factory will shut down for work – a crane will be used to remove chimneys. Will advise nearer the time. Crane will operation under normal circumstances – daytime etc.

Banking Update

The Chair has confirmed that we are eligible for a new account with Royal Bank of Scotland.

Action:

Martin and Jamie will action and arrange for this to be set up and will report back at next meeting.

Defib Status/New Location

Defib at Co-op – Martin

Defib was recently used – new battery is required however there is currently a national storage. The battery is still in use just now and if it runs out before a new one is needed then the defib unit will be taken offline.

Action:

Martin – discuss situation with Manager at Co-op.

Afton Court Park

Lesley has been in touch with the contact at the council regarding the equipment for the playpark. PO has been issued to the contractor but there is delay in the equipment being installed.

Action:

Lesley – will continue to chase up.

Flyers/Leaflet Drops

Confirmed that the leaflets/flyers are all good to go. Jamie will go ahead and order these. Leaflet drop to start at Broomridge and Wallace Park first. Make sure leaflets are also left at Braehead Primary School and along at the Mayfield Centre.

Noticeboard update

Boards are in a bad condition, Co-op one is ok. Quote now available, invoice to be handed in.

Action:

Lesley – to monitor situation and update community council.

Frequency stays the same.

Toy Library/Planters/small Differences

Lesley confirmed that she has been speaking with the word work department at Glenochil Prison regarding planters for the area. Looking for approximately 10. Arrange for quote to be raised.

Planters at Orchard House Health Centre were made by Men’s Shed – contact Men’s Shed for quote.

Caltrop Place planter – resident confirmed that they purchased the planter and will continue to look after this.

Issue raised on Facebook regarding the removal of a tree at Braehead. Tree was removed so work could take place. Community Council have been in touch with the organisation concerned and a replacement tree will be arranged.

Action:

Lesley to chase up.

Book Shed

Looking for new locations for these – Shirras Brae and Wallace Park.

Footpaths

Update needed on unadopted footpaths in Ross Court and surrounding areas.

Action:

Martin to take photographs and investigate further.

Co-opt new members

Looking to attract new members to the community council. Need to confirm how many we

can have.

AOCB

Anti-Social Behaviour – non-Stirling Council tenants to raise issue with Anti-Social Behaviour

Team, Stirling Council tenants to report issues to Housing Services – all to report to Police

Scotland.
