Apply for residents in care or hospital discount

Use this service to apply to pay less Council Tax if one of the adults in your home is in long-term care or hospital.

Council Tax charges assume at least two adults live in the home. A person who is in long-term care or hospital is not counted as an adult living in the home.

If you are the only person living in the home you'll be entitled to a discount of 25% on your Council Tax bill. If the property is empty, you will not have to pay any Council Tax.

Before you begin

We will ask you for information about:

  • yourself
  • your Council Tax reference if you know it
  • the person in care or hospital
