What is Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC)?

This is the national approach to supporting and working with all children and young people in Scotland. It puts the rights and wellbeing of children and young people at the heart of the services that support them.

Most children get all the support and help they need from their parent(s), family and local community. Where extra support is needed, the GIRFEC approach aims to make that the right support is available at the right time.

Key elements of GIRFEC are:

  • Services working together
  • Wellbeing
  • Child’s Plan
