Work placements, and participating in the Scottish Youth Parliament can help young people understand the skills needed for work.
Work experience placements
Work experience is an important part of the career education programme. Pupils are placed with local employers. usually for one week. In some circumstances, a pupil may attend a work placement regularly over an extended period, as part of the pupil's curriculum. During the placement, they are treated as young employees of the organisation and can try a range of tasks or duties and find out about the skills and attitudes that employers are looking for. This experience helps many pupils think positively about the qualities they may need to develop, and about careers they may be interested in.
Health and safety
We take pupil health, safety and well-being very seriously, especially when they are on a work experience placement. We work with placement providers to help them provide a safe and secure working environment. Where necessary, a Stirling Council health and safety officer will visit the premises.

Young Scot
Apply for a Young Scot National Entitlement Card
The Young Scot Card National Entitlement Card (Young Scot NEC) is available free of charge to everyone aged 11-26 living in Scotland. For further information visit Young Scot. The Young Scot NEC can be used for Proof-of-Age, exclusive rewards and discounts.
All residents in Scotland under the age of 22 are eligible for free bus travel. More information can be found on Transport Scotland.
Verification documents required:
- Proof of DOB (Birth Certificate, Passport)
- Proof of Address (Letter dated within the last month)
- Photographic Proof (Passport, Driving Licence)
Photographs should be:
- Facing forward and looking straight at the camera
- In close-up of face, head and shoulders (passport size photograph)
- With neutral expression and with mouth closed
- With no other objects or people in the photo
- Be taken against a plain cream or plain light-grey background

Scottish Youth Parliament
The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) provides a national platform for young people to discuss the issues that are important to them, and campaign for changes to our nation. It is made up of democratically elected members, aged 12-25, from all over Scotland.
The voice of young people in Scotland
The SYP's vision for Scotland is a nation that actively listens to and values the meaningful participation of its children and young people. SYP encourages all of Scotland's young people to play their part in achieving this vision. They support members in their work by training them, supporting their personal development and empowering them, using a youth work ethos.
Get involved
You can get involved with the SYP by becoming an SYP member, through one of the many partner organisations where they are represented, or by attending one of their engagement sessions that cover democracy, campaigning and rights.
