The Provost will be joined by the Lord-Lieutenant of Stirling and Falkirk, Alan Simpson, Stirling Council Chief Executive, Carol Beattie, and Stirling Council Leader, Councillor Chris Kane to mark the occasion following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Proclamation will also be read out in Stirling Council secondary schools on Monday.

Provost Dodds said: “This is an incredibly sad time and my thoughts remain with the members of the Royal Family and our communities mourning the passing of Her Majesty.

“While this is a time to recognise and remember the service of our longest-reigning Monarch with affection and gratitude, it is also my humble duty to proclaim to the people of Stirling the beginning of our new King’s reign.

“I would invite members of the public to join me on King Street for 1pm on Sunday.”

Condolence arrangements

Murray Place and King Street will be closed to traffic from 12noon until after the Proclamation.

Books of Condolence are now open for members of the public to pay their respects at Old Viewforth, Customer First and the Albert Halls. Access will be available from 10am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday, and then normal building opening hours during the week.

An online Book of Condolence is available on the Council website.

If members of the public wish to lay flowers in commemoration, an area has been set aside at Stirling Council headquarters, Old Viewforth, situated close to the flag pole within the grounds.

Areas have also been set aside at the War Memorial at Corn Exchange Road as well as Ancaster Square in Callander.

While Council business continues, all of our events and engagements are being reviewed and may be postponed or cancelled as a mark of respect. Arrangements will be confirmed in due course.
