‘Fort-tastic’ upgrades to Kings Park play park

Major new upgrades to a popular play area in Stirling’s Kings Park have been completed with still some time left in the school holidays left to enjoy.

The upgrades to the play facility were completed at the end of July.

The play park’s fort has been replaced with an exciting new design, incorporating ropes, ladders and climbing walls to challenge kids looking to clamber around. The existing popular slides have been retained within the new-look facility.

Multiple entry points have been incorporated into the fort to allow children to build their confidence and complete the obstacle course at their own pace.

Work began on the upgrades to the playground at the beginning of June. The completed facility has been installed onto a hardwearing carpet to allow year-round usage and blend into the surrounding area.

'Enjoyed by families'

The installation of the new equipment is part of Stirling Council’s investment in its play parks with 20 projects taking place in communities across the area, thanks to the Scottish Government’s Renewal of Playparks fund. From this, £421,000 has been allocated for the current financial year.

Environment, Transport and Net Zero Convener, Cllr Jen Preston said: “Our Play and Maintenance Team have done a fantastic job in bringing the upgraded fort to fruition so it can be enjoyed by families. I’d like to thank all groups who fed into consultation on the design of the fort replacement to ensure it would be enjoyed by all park users.

“We are committed to improving our play areas and creating high-quality and welcoming facilities that support active and healthy lifestyles and other benefits among our children.”

Local nurseries, schools and Friends of Kings Park were among the groups consulted on the specifications of the upgraded fort project.
