The construction of the new Callander Primary School has reached a major milestone as the facility begins to take shape.

The installation of the steel frame of the new school building has been completed.

Work to install the steel frame to the building has been completed, giving a clear outline to the new school and marking a key point of the build phase of the project.

Significant progress has been made on site since ground was broken on the development site in March including the drainage works and progression of lower and upper ground level concrete foundations. The project remains on schedule with the purpose-built 3G sports pitch on course to be handed over in early autumn.

The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Planning Authority granted planning permission for the new Callander Primary School in November, with work starting on the site in late February.  The school will have capacity for up to 317 pupils and will comprise classrooms, general-purpose rooms and breakout spaces. Bespoke classrooms for pupils with additional support needs will also be included in the building.

'Thrilled to see progress'

Social Work and Education Convener Cllr Danny Gibson said: “It’s an exciting milestone to see the steel frame of the building of the new Callander Primary School taking shape and I’m sure the local community are just as thrilled to see the progress of this modern learning facility which will serve young learners for years to come.

“This is a significant investment in our education estate and highlights our commitment to provide ample opportunities for young people within Stirling to thrive as they learn and develop.”

A new Callander Community Campus will be created from the major development, with the new primary school located alongside Callander Nursery, McLaren High School and McLaren Leisure Centre. The recently completed Katrine House at McLaren High School will also provide new ASN educational facilities for secondary pupils in the area.

Stirling Council approved funding of £23 million to deliver a brand new primary school in the area as part of its capital investment programme. The project is being led by construction partners Kier and Hub East Central Scotland and is being supported by funding from the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP).

'Significant moment'

Phil McDowell, regional director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: “Reaching the steel frame milestone is a significant moment in the delivery of the new Callander Primary School. It reflects the strong collaboration between Stirling Council, Hub East Central Scotland, our supply chain partners and the wider design team.

“We’re proud to be part of a project that will bring lasting value to the community, and we look forward to progressing on site as the vision for this modern learning environment becomes reality.”

Gary Bushnell, Chief Executive, hub East Central Scotland said: “It’s great to see how much progress has been made on the build in just a few months. We look forward to managing the project to completion next year with the delivery of another high-quality school for Stirling Council that will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment.”
