Feedback is being sought on Stirling Council’s new Local Housing Strategy (LHS). This key strategic document sets out the council’s vision for tackling housing need and demand in communities as well as its plans for achieving them.

The strategy, which also inform future investment in housing, will focus on priorities including:

  • Increasing the supply of high-quality, affordable housing
  • Improving the condition and energy efficiency of homes across Stirling
  • Preventing and responding to homelessness
  • Meeting the housing needs of people with specific requirements to support independent living
  • Working with landlords to make Stirling’s private rented sector a sustainable housing option.

Residents will be able to have their say in an online survey on the Engage Stirling website and at a series of drop-in sessions that have been arranged in locations across Stirling.

Huge impact

Convener of Stirling Council’s Community Wellbeing and Housing Committee, Cllr David Wilson said: “Housing has a huge impact on the quality of the lives people’s lives, from health and wellbeing to supporting regeneration of communities and economic growth.

“This consultation on the Local Housing Strategy will enable residents and local partners to shape housing priorities, investment and service delivery across Stirling over the next five years.

“We recognise that people face a diverse range of housing challenges, so it’s vital that we hear the views of residents and other stakeholders as this will enable us to allocate resources to where they are needed.

“As well as the quick online survey, we have arranged drop-in sessions and workshops in local communities where people can learn more about the strategy and share their feedback.

“We look forward to engaging with the public and other partners during this initial phase of the consultation. Please take part and have your say on the future of housing in your community and throughout Stirling.”

This online survey will run until Monday 28 July, with the results informing the next stage of the consultation which is scheduled for later this year. There will be a further consultation phase in 2026 before the final version of the strategy is developed and presented to councillors for approval.

The strategy will tie in with other key strategic documents including Stirling’s new Local Development Plan which is in development.
