Deanston Primary School is once again celebrating the achievements of its young people after securing all three Digital Schools Awards.

Deanston Primary are now one of only a few schools in Scotland to have received all three Digital School Awards

The school completed the hat-trick in February when they became the first in Stirling to receive the Equitable Creative Coding (ECCo) Award. The school received the Digital Wellbeing Award in 2024 alongside Doune Primary and the Digital Schools Award in 2018.

This makes them one of the few schools in Scotland to have achieved all three awards available through the programme.

The ECCo Award recognised the school’s commitment to embedding digital skills throughout every aspect of the curriculum by encouraging creativity, critical thinking and collaboration through integrating coding skills into a variety of subjects and activities. The school’s work in this area has been led through Deputising Class Teacher, Collette Ashworth.

'Triple digital milestone'

Deanston PS Headteacher, Matthew Hurding said: "Deanston Primary is thrilled to achieve a triple digital milestone this year. Receiving the Digital Safety Award, ECCO Award, and re-validating our Digital School status underscores our commitment to embedding digital literacy throughout our curriculum.

“Mrs Ashworth's dedication has been instrumental in empowering our children and staff to thrive in the evolving digital landscape."

Children and Young People Convener, Cllr Danny Gibson said: “Deanston Primary School  By instilling  digital literacy through all aspects of learning, Deanston Primary School is equipping its young people with the key skills that will be increasingly vital for future work opportunities across Stirling and beyond.

“Being the first in Stirling to achieve the Equitable Creative Coding Award, and among the few in Scotland to have all three Digital Schools Awards, is well-deserved validation for the efforts made by the staff and pupils.

“This learning is essential as the digital landscape is becoming more and more prevalent in our everyday lives as well as the world of work. Every effort to help equip our young people with the skills and confidence to navigate the digital landscape is invaluable.”

The Digital Schools Awards were launched in 2015, with backing from tech giants led by HP Inc., and is validated by Education Scotland. It provides support for schools to help pupils and their families stay safe online in an ever-expanding digital landscape.

'Inspiring example'

Digital Schools Awards validator, Dr Katharine Jewitt said: “The Digital Schools Awards provides a credible solution to addressing the national issues of digital skills shortages.

"We are seeing the impact of the Digital School Awards, encouraging learners to take forward digital competencies, starting from early years. Deanston Primary School is an inspiring example of preparing young learners for lifelong success in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.”
