Scotland welcomes millions of international visitors each year, and many enjoy bringing, or hiring, a vehicle to experience the beauty of Scotland’s rural landscapes, several of which are located across Stirling.
Some visitors may be unfamiliar with local driving etiquette in Scotland, particularly in rural locations or while using single-track roads and passing places.
The 'Drive on the Left' campaign aims to draw attention to the importance of staying alert and being well-rested to avoid switching to autopilot while driving. This can easily happen on quieter roads or when the driver is tired, causing dangerous errors such as entering a roundabout the wrong way or turning onto the wrong side of the road at a junction.
'Keep yourself and other road users safe'
Environment, Transport and Net-Zero Convener, Cllr Jen Preston said: “Stirling’s incredible natural landscapes attract visitors from across the world, who understandably will be accustomed to differing customs and regulations while driving.
“Some of our roads, particularly in rural areas can pose significant challenges to drivers who are visiting from other countries. The ‘Drive On the Left’ campaign reinforces road safety awareness to visiting tourists to take heed of local driving conditions and etiquette.
“Please make the most of your visit to Stirling but ensure that you keep yourself and other road users safe while driving in unfamiliar surroundings.”
