From 8 October 2025, Stirling Council will begin delivering new 140L black bins with purple lids to households for glass recycling.
This new bin will replace the blue glass box, which will be uplifted and recycled.
Your new glass bin may be delivered on a different day from when your blue box is removed.
The cost of the new bins is fully funded by the UK Government’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme.

Households will receive a letter with details of your new bin in January under the new 8 weekly collection schedule for your glass bin.
Collections
The collection frequency for your glass will remain 4 weekly until 5 January 2026
After 5 January 2026, the collection frequency for your glass bin will every 8 weeks.
The new 140L bin provides 17% more space annually than the 55L blue box, allowing for less frequent collections. The collection frequency of all other bins will remain the same.Â
Put your bin kerbside by 7am on collection day and return it promptly afterwards.
Please note that the new glass bin belongs to the property. Please do not remove it.
Communal and Assisted Collections
Flatted properties will receive a communal allocation based on need. The larger communal bins do not need to be presented on collection day.
Assisted collections will continue as normal for glass bins.
Your new bin will be placed next to your existing bins. Glass boxes will be removed on your next scheduled collection day.
You can recycle the same items as you currently do in your blue glass box.
Check our What Goes in My Kerbside Bin page for details.
Do not put general household waste in your glass bin, or place glass in your blue recycling bin.
If contamination occurs, you will need to remove the items or pay a service charge for us to return and collect.
Stirling City Centre
If you currently use a glass box, it will be replaced with a glass bin.
If you use purple sacks or communal bin hubs, continue to use the existing bring sites across the city centre.
