The election will be the first time a Scottish electorate will be asked to use ID to vote at a polling station.

Voters in Stirling and Strathallan should check now that they have an accepted form of ID, and if not to apply for free ID, called the Voter Authority Certificate, by 26 June.

Accepted forms of photo ID include a passport, driving licence, older person’s or disabled person’s bus pass and Young Scot card. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo. The full list of ID is available at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID

Residents who don’t have an accepted form of photo ID can apply for free ID either online or by completing a paper application form and sending it to their Electoral Registration Office by 26 June.

Voters should also check if they are registered to vote prior to the deadline of 18 June.

Applying only takes five minutes at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and must be done by 18 June. Voters can choose whether to vote at a polling station, by post or by proxy.

There may also be more people choosing to vote by post or proxy due to the election falling during the school holidays. The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on 19 June.
