Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme grant amounts and payment

Maximum amounts

Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme grants cover up to:

  • 75% of the cost of eligible building repair works
  • 90% of the cost of eligible shopfront repairs

How we decide grant amounts

To get a grant, you must go through a full application process.

During this process, we'll decide:

  • whether your works are eligible
  • the amount we'll award

When we pay grants

In most cases, we'll only pay a grant once:

  • all works have been completed
  • you've submitted your final accounts

If you get a large grant, we may pay this in stages. We'll agree this with you before your work begins.

VAT

You do not have to pay VAT on your grant.

If you have questions about any tax issues related to your project, you can contact HMRC.

When you might need to pay back some of your grant

We'll ask you to pay back some of your grant if you sell your property during the 15-year 'monitoring period'.

You'll need to pay this money to either:

  • Historic Environment Scotland
  • Stirling Council

'Clawback' rates

The amount you need to pay back will depend on the amount of time that's passed since your works ended.
