These regulations govern the public's right to access environmental information held by public authorities including local authorities.
Environmental information covered by the regulations includes:
The state of the:
- The air
- The atmosphere
Factors affecting the above elements such as
- Radiation or waste
- Discharges into the environment.
Making environmental information more easily accessible to the public is considered vital in contributing to the achievement of sustainable development.
The more information that people have access to, the more the public can understand the consequences on the environment of certain proposals and actions.
As with Freedom of Information legislation, environmental information may be withheld if there is a good reason for doing so. If we do withhold information, we will let you know why.
If you are unhappy with our decision, or with the way we have dealt with your request, you can ask us to review our decision.
If you do not agree with the outcome of the review, you can ask the Scottish Information Commissioner to investigate.
