Who Can Use These Centres?
These staffed centres are for the use of Stirling Council residents only. You may be asked for proof of address when you visit. A new photocard driving licence from the DVLA, or a utility bill will be OK to show the attendant if asked.
We welcome cars, cars with small trailers and small vans up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight. Larger vans, trailers or combinations that exceed the 3.5 weight limit or that will not fit into our standard-sized parking spaces at the site will be refused entry.
Please Note: Commercial waste cannot be accepted. The Commercial Waste pages provide for details on disposing of business waste and access to the Transfer Station if required.
What Materials Are Accepted for Recycling?
A wide range of household materials can be taken directly to these recycling centres, including fridges and freezers, fluorescent tubes and low energy light bulbs with mercury, motor oil and children's good and toys. Here's a full list of the items accepted at each HWRC. Furniture can be taken to Lower Polmiase (only) where the Salvation Army takes what is usable.
General household waste (black bags of refuse, etc) also can be placed in the appropriate skips. This material is then sorted and processed to remove as many recyclable materials as possible.
Please note fibreglass insulation or other loose fibre materials need to be double wrapped to avoid air pollution.
Disposal of asbestos is strictly legislated under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Do not attempt to move such wastes until you have taken advice. The Health & Safety Executive website has good information on asbestos. Likewise, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Tel: 01786 452595) has several useful publications relating to identifying and handling different types of asbestos on their NetRegs website. The Asbestos Quick Start Environmental Checklist provides a good introduction.
Under certain conditions, Stirling Council will accept low-grade asbestos, such as corrugated roof sheets on old garages. It must be double bagged in manageable bundles (which can be handled by yourself) with polythene or similar and the edges taped up, and presented Monday through Thursday between 8:30 and 14:30. We do not accept business waste, only household waste is accepted and the householder must be present with the waste from a Stirling Council Area address. An information guide on how to prepare asbestos for disposal at the HWRC can be downloaded by clicking the link below.
An Asbestos Waste Delivery Note should be completed prior to arriving at an HWRC. This can be downloaded by clicking the link below.
Other types of asbestos may need to be moved by a specialist contractor. If unsure, please phone SEPA at the number above or Stirling Council on 01786 404040.
BSI PAS 100 certified compost is available from all three Centres and it is available free of charge to all Stirling Council residents. Please bring your own bags and shovels to collect the compost. We also advise that you wear good quality gardening gloves. Please note that we do not deliver compost.
